Video: Navigating Divorce and Family Law, with CCHA Law Attorney Emily Schmale

Going through a divorce raises hard questions about your children, your finances, and what life will look like once the case is over. Knowing what to expect, and having the right attorney beside you, can make a difficult process easier.

In this video, CCHA Law Attorney Emily Schmale explains how she guides families through the divorce process in Indiana, how CCHA Law’s full-service team benefits family law clients, how long a divorce may take, and what it may cost.

Emily Schmale: CCHA Approach to Family Law

Family Law Services Tailored to Your Needs

Every case is different. Emily approaches each client with intellectual curiosity, taking time to learn about the person and their family so she can tailor what the law allows to their specific needs. She helps clients with:

  • Divorce

  • Child custody and parenting time

  • Child support

  • Custody and support issues that come up after a divorce is final

  • Complex and disputed asset division

The Benefit of a Full-Service Law Firm

Family law cases often touch other areas of the law. As Emily explains, one thing that makes CCHA Law different from other firms is the breadth of its practice groups. When an issue arises in a family law case, the attorneys can turn to colleagues inside the firm for guidance and input.

That might mean working with business attorneys to restructure a business after a divorce, asking the firm’s school law team to weigh in on a school matter, or consulting real estate attorneys about a property. Having that experience under one roof gives clients more complete support throughout their case.

How Long Will My Divorce Take, and What Will It Cost?

These are two of the most common questions clients ask at the start of the process. Every case is different, but Emily offers a general picture:

  • If both parties can reach an agreement early, a case might take about 60 days.

  • If the case needs more of the tools the law provides, such as hearings and litigation in court, it may take nine months to a year.

Cost follows the same range. An amicable path to a quick resolution will look different financially than a case that needs the court’s involvement to resolve an issue. CCHA Law is prepared to handle hearings and litigation when a case requires them, but the goal is an amicable process that helps the family move on to its next chapter.
