CCHA Law is pleased to kickoff our monthly nonprofit highlights by sharing about Shepherd’s Center of Hamilton County. We are proud to have attorneys who have volunteered their expertise and time on the board. We are proud to share about how this organization supports adults aged 55+ in Hamilton County with free services, social activities, and community connection.

About the Shepherd's Center of Hamilton County

The Shepherd's Center of Hamilton County (SCHC) empowers adults 55 years and over to lead independent and fulfilling lives. Founded in 1985 by a group of Hamilton County residents, SCHC connects seniors with resources, social programs, and community support to help individuals age in place with dignity.

How SCHC Supports the Community

SCHC offers a wide range of services, including the Community Caring program, free Counseling Program to any Hamilton County resident age 55+ regardless of income, and resource connections through Reaching Resources. Their initiatives promote independence, reduce isolation, and foster social engagement among senior adults.

One special program offered is called Together Today that aims to prevent isolation. Together Today is a weekly meeting that brings older adults together for social time with games, lunch, and the opportunity to make new friends or catch up with old ones. This event is free and no reservations are required to attend.

CCHA Law’s Involvement

CCHA Law’s Sarah Randall recently joined the SCHC board.

Sarah shared, “I am passionate about helping senior citizens, and am excited to help an organization whose mission is to help seniors.” As part of our mission to be part of the community, CCHA Law is proud to give back to SCHC through our time, talent, and hands on care.

How to Support Shepherd’s Center of Hamilton County

SCHC welcomes community support through volunteering, donating, or attending their events. Individual volunteers can assist for a one-time event or on an ongoing basis or groups and businesses can coordinate a volunteer effort together. Contributions directly benefit the impactful work SCHC does for the community.

  • Community Caring Program: One-On-One volunteer opportunities include transportation, friendly visits, phone pal, yard work, light home safety modifications, and other needed services.

  • Together Today Program: Volunteers serve as the “welcome committee” and welcome all new members to the group and help them join activities. The lead volunteer helps keep the group on task and welcomes the sponsors and gets them set up for lunch/activity.

  • Guardianship Program: Volunteer Advocates are paired with an adult under guardianship to help monitor their care plan and ensure the highest degree of independence, dignity, health, comfort, and safety is maintained.
