CCHA Law Proudly Supports Penrod

At CCHA Law, we believe the arts are an essential part of community growth and longevity. That’s why we’re proud to support Penrod and their annual event, the Penrod Arts Fair.

About Penrod

Penrod is an Indianapolis-based, all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports arts and cultural initiatives throughout Central Indiana. Founded in 1967, Penrod is led by members of the Penrod Society, a fellowship of professionals who volunteer their time to help strengthen community through the arts. The organization is perhaps best known for the Penrod Arts Fair, affectionately known as “Indiana’s Nicest Day.” The annual event brings artists, performers, arts organizations, and thousands of attendees together on the grounds of Newfields for a celebration of creativity and community.

But Penrod’s impact reaches well beyond a single day. Through its events and philanthropic initiatives, Penrod provides financial support to artists and arts organizations throughout Indiana. In 2026 alone, Penrod awarded $315,000 in grants to more than 90 Indiana arts organizations. Since its founding, the organization has distributed more than $55 million in grants supporting the arts.

Why CCHA Law Supports Penrod

Penrod’s commitment to serving the community through the arts closely aligns with CCHA Law’s own longstanding commitment to giving back to the communities where we live and work.

CCHA Law attorneys Fred Sprunger and Justin Hays are both members of the Penrod Society. Justin joined the organization in 2023, while Fred joined in 2024. For Fred, Penrod’s volunteer-driven model and the tangible impact it makes throughout the Indianapolis area were major reasons he wanted to get involved.

“I joined Penrod because of how seriously it takes the arts in the greater Indianapolis area. It’s rare that it’s 100% volunteer-based, so the money actually reaches artists, in the form of grants, murals, and public art installations across our community to name a few.”

The mission also reflects the values Fred brings to his work at CCHA Law.

“At its core, my work is about helping people. Penrod is that, at the scale of a city: being a good steward of what this community has entrusted to us, so it reaches the artists and the neighborhoods that need it.”

This year, both Fred and Justin will once again put that commitment into action at the Arts Fair. Fred will serve on Penrod’s Food and Beverage Committee, while Justin will serve on the Arrangements Committee. The 2026 event will mark Fred’s second Arts Fair as a Penrod member, and Justin’s third.

Attend the 2026 Penrod Arts Fair

The 59th Annual Penrod Arts Fair will be held Saturday, September 12, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Newfields.

This year’s event will once again bring together hundreds of artists and performers with five stages of entertainment, more than 50 arts-related organizations, food and beverages, and a dedicated Children’s Area featuring hands-on activities and entertainment for young visitors.

For Fred, one part of the fair stands out above the rest: the artists.

“My favorite part is the many, many talented artists showcasing their most prized work on Indiana’s Nicest Day!” he says.

Whether you’re searching for a new piece of art, enjoying live performances, bringing the family for a day at Newfields, or simply exploring the creativity found throughout Indiana and beyond, the Penrod Arts Fair offers plenty of ways to experience and support the arts.

And that support extends far beyond fair day. Proceeds from Penrod’s annual events help fund its grant program, which provides financial support to arts, cultural and educational organizations and initiatives throughout the community.
