This year, CCHA Law is proud to support Janus Developmental Services, an organization entering its 47th year of providing adults with disabilities the opportunity to live a fulfilling life. Whether it’s through board participation or the giving of personal interest and time, we are thrilled to be a part of the Janus community.
“It’s easy to be a fan and supporter of Janus because it means supporting a place where individuals with disabilities gain meaningful work experience, essential life skills, and the confidence to thrive — both personally and professionally,” says CCHA Law Chief Operating Officer Dave Holt.
Located in Hamilton County and serving the greater Indianapolis area, Janus Developmental Services offers educational opportunities, employment training, independent living, and education to adults with disabilities and their families. Their focus areas include:
Work Experience
Through its Work Experience programs, Janus partners with local companies and organizations to provide onsite training, skill-building, and professional development. Participants can work in various disciplines, including contract manufacturing (sorting, labeling, packaging, mailing, and machine operation), creative production (making and selling artistic goods), and food service (café, catering, and restaurant support via the Capabilities Café, located in the Hamilton County Government and Judicial Center).
Community Employment
Janus’s Community Employment team helps individuals apply for and achieve successful employment at various local companies and organizations, assists the employer with training (if needed), and provides mentoring and support to employees throughout their employment journey.
Doorways
Doorways is a hands-on skill building program that helps individuals develop, use, and expand their unique abilities. Through hands-on, experiential practices like gardening, cooking, baking, exercise, community involvement, volunteering and more, the Doorways program teaches important life skills like self advocacy, making connections, managing nutrition and wellness, and supporting your own mental wellbeing.
Recreational Therapy
Janus offers a full gym and walking track at its Noblesville location in its recreational sports area. In this setting, recreational therapists, social workers, and other service providers can offer therapy sessions that incorporate movement of all types to inspire physical, social, and emotional growth. Recreational therapy sessions are also offered at South Pointe Village in Fishers.
Transportation
Janus offers a-to-b services for seniors and adults with disabilities via its Janus Transportation system and through the Hamilton County Express. Both systems provide quality, affordable transportation to and from Janus activities and community events.
Janus’s services don’t just benefit its participants: They also benefit employees who see and are gratified by the real strides individuals can make.
“It is so rewarding to be able to make a difference in the lives of our Participants,” says Jerry Jamison, Development and Communications Senior Director. “They are always happy and want to show you what they are doing or making. They love when you walk back to see them. They tell you all about their day and what they have done.”
Jamison is also gratified by the community support the organization has received through the years, and looks forward to working more with CCHA Law.
“It is always good to get the word out about Janus,” Jamison says. “So [I] always want to … make connections with others. In the past [CCHA has] done sponsorships of Janus. I know they care about the people that we serve.”
