Kara serves as the CCHA Collegiate Sports Law Practice Manager. In her role she assists in NCAA compliance matters, Title IX investigations, and gender equity reviews. Prior to joining our team, she held a key role at the NCAA National Office, where she worked within the Eligibility Center. Over the course of her 10-year tenure at the NCAA, Kara specialized in issues surrounding initial eligibility, amateurism, and academic compliance. She also led the Division I and II Membership Advisory Groups, collaborating closely with NCAA member institutions.
Kara’s professional experience also includes two years as the Assistant Registrar for Athletics Eligibility at the University of Utah. In this role, she managed initial and transfer eligibility processes, as well as the Academic Progress Rate (APR). Additionally, she provided valuable support in compliance-related matters, including legislative relief waivers, student-athlete reinstatement, and NCAA rules interpretations. Kara also played a key role in educating student-athletes, coaches, and university staff on NCAA rules.
Kara holds a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Mass Communication with a minor in Sports and Health Studies from the University of Iowa, as well as a master's degree in Business Management from Indiana Wesleyan University.
Kara and her husband, Dan, reside in Indianapolis with their children, Archie and Molly, and their dog, Goldie.
