Matt is a Senior Advisor for CCHA Collegiate Sports Law after prior stops at the University of Louisville, the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC), Indiana University McKinney School of Law, the NCAA National Office, and the NCAA Eligibility Center. Matt’s 20+ years of experience in college athletics and higher education includes managing high profile NCAA compliance, scholarship, NIL, transfer, amateurism, infractions, eligibility, and other NCAA matters affecting student-athletes, coaches, and athletic programs across all three NCAA Divisions. While at the University of Louisville, Matt served on the senior staff including managing governance and compliance functions for 23 varsity sport programs that included future NBA, WNBA, NFL, MLB, MLS, NWSL, and Olympic athletes and national team coaches. Matt served as Louisville’s sport administrator for Women’s Lacrosse, Women’s Rowing, and Men’s Soccer and led the University’s implementation of Name-Image-Likeness (NIL) policies, outreach, and strategy.

While at the OVC, Matt supported OVC member universities on all governance, compliance, National Letter of Intent, and legislative areas and served as the league’s sport administrator for men’s tennis and women’s tennis. While at the NCAA national office, Matt drafted NCAA rules, interpretations, and legislative proposals for all three divisions, served as liaison to NCAA committees, processed NCAA waivers, and provided legislative and interpretative guidance to NCAA member schools and the general public. Matt was part of the NCAA staff team that launched the NCAA Eligibility Center after the NCAA assumed the role of the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse. Matt also served as Assistant Dean at the Indiana University McKinney School of Law.

Matt completed his juris doctorate at Marquette University Law School and his undergraduate degree at the University of St. Thomas (MN) where he also competed for the Tommies football team. Matt teaches an NCAA governance course at the University of Louisville and a Name-Image-Likeness (NIL) course at Marquette University Law School. Matt’s presented at national conferences, seminars, and conventions and appeared in several media outlets covering college sports.

Matt serves on the Board of the Louisville Leopards Percussionists and serves as a Big Brother in the Big Brother/Big Sisters Program. Matt loves traveling to see family and friends, live music, and keeping up with his Aussie labradoodle Vukie.
