Cchacares

Each month, CCHA is excited to showcase organizations committed to improving the lives of our communities and those who live in them. This month’s featured organization is the Tipton County Foundation (TCF), which exists for the broad-based philanthropic interests of and community benefit of residents of the defined geographic area of Tipton County, Indiana — just one of six locations CCHA is proud to call home.

CCHA’S Katt Boaz and Ben Hobbs are CCHA attorneys who practice in the Tipton office. Katt currently volunteers on the TCF Scholarship committee. Ben was a co-founder and past board member and board chair of TCF.

Their “Why”

TCF is a tax-exempt, nonprofit, autonomous, publicly supported, nonsectarian philanthropic institution. Through philanthropic donor services, strategic grantmaking, and constructive leadership, your hometown community foundation unites the gifts of many to sustain the causes that matter to all — now, and for all generations to come.

Their History

Since its founding in 1986, the civic-spirited volunteers responsible for TCF’s Board leadership, fundraising, investment decisions, and grantmaking have built a substantial endowment that will never be spent. Income earned from investments is used to help meet Tipton County’s charitable needs — from social services for youth and senior citizens, to art, culture, education, recreation, historical preservation, animal welfare, and community development projects of all types. Additionally, TCF is a conduit for individual support of organizations, receiving non-endowed contributions that are earmarked and sometimes matched for local needs.

Their Team

TCF has 4 staff members and 13 board members. They operate with several advisory committees making recommendations to the Board of Directors.

Community Grant-Making

Making grants for the benefit of those who live, work, worship, and play in Tipton County is at the core of how the Tipton County Foundation gives back. Donors of TCF have established a wide variety of funds that make grants to a broad range of charitable agencies and purposes.

You can visit here if you are interested in learning more about this facet of what they do.

Community Leadership

Since 2019, TCF has taken on more community leadership roles. They convened community listening sessions in each town and city in Tipton County and helped create the Tipton County Vision Plan. The plan was approved and adopted by the County Commissioners.

Scholarship Resource

TCF is also an excellent resource for students seeking scholarships. In fact, TCF awards over $150,000 in scholarships each year! Currently, they have over 60 unique scholarship opportunities and 152 unique funds, all funded by local donors who care about the education of Tipton County youth.

Scholarships offered run the gamut for graduating seniors pursuing any sort of post-secondary credential (including bachelor’s and associate’s degrees, technical certifications, and trade school opportunities). Whether a full or part time student, one is eligible for funds through TCF.

To date, thus far in 2022, TCF has granted over $1,450,000 in grants and scholarships.

Current Happenings

TCF is currently administering the Tipton County Lilly Endowment Scholarship - a tuition-paid scholarship to any Indiana college for one deserving senior from Tipton County.

They are also currently working on Community Based Action Planning projects with a great group of volunteers. The work on these projects consists of several smaller, more attainable action items that get us closer to larger goals. Their team has created great forward momentum that they hope to continue to grow.

Upcoming Events

TCF will celebrate their annual Holiday Reception on Tuesday, November 29th. This is also Giving Tuesday. They will match up to $50,000 in gifts. For more information, people can reach out to Dawn Dunn, Program Officer at TCF.
