POST DATE: 8.4.26
Libby Roberts

CCHA Law is proud to congratulate partner Liberty L. "Libby" Roberts on her selection as the next United States Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of Indiana.

This prestigious appointment is a remarkable milestone in Libby's distinguished legal career and reflects the exceptional leadership, professionalism, and integrity she has demonstrated throughout her years in practice. The appointment was announced by the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana on July 15, 2026. Libby will assume the role on January 1, 2027, following the retirement of the Honorable Mark J. Dinsmore.

Since joining CCHA Law as a partner in 2014, Libby has played an instrumental role in the growth and success of the firm. As Chair of our Litigation Group, she has led one of Indiana's premier litigation practices while representing businesses, schools, colleges and universities, municipalities, and public entities in complex litigation throughout the state.

Throughout her career, Libby has built a reputation as a skilled litigator, trusted advisor, and dedicated public servant. Her practice has focused on civil rights, employment law, education law, business disputes, governmental liability, and insurance defense. She has also devoted countless hours to mentoring young attorneys, strengthening our firm's culture, and helping clients navigate some of their most challenging legal matters.

Libby's commitment to the legal profession extends well beyond the courtroom. She has served in leadership roles with the Indiana Bar Foundation, remained actively involved with the Indianapolis Bar Association for more than two decades, and has been recognized with numerous honors, including designation as an Indiana Super Lawyer, the FBI Director's Community Leadership Award, and Indiana Bar Foundation Master Fellow.

According to the United States District Court, Libby was unanimously selected by the District Judges following a competitive selection process led by a Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Committee. In announcing the appointment, Chief Judge James R. Sweeney II praised Libby's experience as a litigator, mediator, and leader within Indiana's legal community, noting that her intelligence, professionalism, and calm demeanor will serve the federal judiciary well.

While we are incredibly proud to celebrate this well-deserved achievement, we are equally grateful that Libby will remain with CCHA Law until January 1, 2027, allowing for a seamless transition for her clients and colleagues before beginning this exciting new chapter of public service.

Libby's appointment is a tremendous honor for both her and our firm. Although we will miss her leadership as a partner, we know she will make an outstanding addition to the federal bench, and we look forward to watching the positive impact she will have in this important role.

Congratulations, Libby! We are incredibly proud of you and grateful for your years of leadership, service, and friendship at CCHA Law.
