COVID-19 has impacted us all, including legal professionals in the state of Indiana. CCHA Partner and ISBA President Leslie Craig Henderzahs had the unique opportunity to interview Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta Rush, taking an in-depth look at topics submitted by Indiana State Bar Association members, during a barside chat (watch in this link).

Barside chat

Topics included the importance of legal services during this time and why legal services should and are considered essential services. Chief Justice Rush also shared how to muster up gusto during a crisis, how the pandemic could shape the future of the legal community in Indiana and the many resources that the courts, ISBA, JLAP, and other organizations across the state have available for those in the legal community.

Chief Justice Rush also addressed members’ questions about practical concerns such as tolling deadlines, the use of video and remote technology, the effect of the COVID-19 crisis on the upcoming bar exam, and how practitioners should continue expanding their skillset during this unconventional period.

ISBA President Leslie Craig Henderzahs inquired how Hoosier legal professionals can help support the courts. The Chief Justice advised, "We have an innovation initiative. This pandemic has sped up the reality that we have to deliver services in different ways, and better. There is a survey for all your members to fill out. If you’ve got a great idea, we want to hear it. …While you’re sitting in this pandemic thinking of a great idea, please take time to fill that out and get it to us.” Read more about CCHA Partner Leslie Craig Henderzahs appointment as ISBA President here.
