David Day engages in a general civil practice of law, including the representation of Indiana public school districts. Mr. Day also represents individuals and small business owners in business planning, business succession planning and estate planning.
Mr. Day serves as general counsel to the Metropolitan School Districts of Lawrence and Warren Townships in Marion County, Indiana, the Carmel Clay Schools, the Hamilton Southeastern Schools, the Alexandria Community School Corporation, and the Clinton Central School Corporation. In addition, Mr. Day has represented over 50 different Indiana school districts as special counsel.
Mr. Day's representation of school districts has included extensive work on the Indianapolis school desegregation case; work with the Western School Corporation in the Ryan White matter and several federal lawsuits involving the civil rights claims of teachers and students. Mr. Day is a frequent speaker at school law seminars at the state and national level and has authored several articles on school law topics. He is a member of the National School Boards Association's Council of School Attorneys and served on its board of directors from 1990 to 1994.
In advising family business owners, Mr. Day has assisted with business organization and structure, daily matters, such as contract review and employment law, and real estate sales and purchases including tax-free exchanges. This practice also includes succession planning, both for the business and the individual owner's estates.
Mr. Day graduated from Ball State University summa cum laude in 1973 with a B.S. degree in education. He received his law degree cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1977. He is a member of the Indiana, Indianapolis and Hamilton County Bar Associations.
Outside of the practice of law, David and his wife, Brenda reside in Wayne Township, Hamilton County, Indiana. David has been an active member of several community organizations and current serves on the Board of Directors of the Noblesville Chamber of Commerce. From 1988-92, he served as a member of the Hamilton Southeastern School Board.
